What are the dangers of skin scratching?

Skin scratches are quite common in life. They may be caused by our skin being accidentally scratched by other objects or by our fingers. The harm caused by skin scratches can be serious or minor. Generally, it does not cause much harm to the body, but for some friends with sensitive skin, it may cause skin allergies. I hope you can analyze it carefully.

Dermatographism is also known as artificial urticaria, or dermatographism rash, or mechanical urticaria. It is a special type of urticaria. When the skin is scratched with fingernails or a blunt object, the area will swell up, have scratches, or even appear as cord-like lumps. There are many causes of skin scratching. If you inhale too many chemicals or come into contact with gas, you may experience skin scratching. Some people are allergic to drugs, such as penicillin, analgesics and antipyretics. In addition, mosquito bites and certain protein foods such as meat, chicken, fish, shrimp and seafood can cause skin scratches in those who are allergic to them.

Skin scratching, also known as artificial urticaria, refers to the condition where the skin is scratched with fingernails or blunt objects, and the area will bulge and present as a cord-like mass (medically, this cord-like mass is called wheal scratch). This disease can be divided into two types: simple symptomatic. Simple scratching is a physical abnormality of normal people, and about 5% of normal people have this phenomenon; symptomatic scratching is divided into immediate and delayed types, both of which are caused by allergic reactions. The former is often caused by penicillin. This allergy does not necessarily have a drug reaction first. 80% of patients treated with penicillin have positive skin scratch tests, and some patients are still positive long after stopping penicillin. In addition to penicillin, if the patient has a recent bacterial infection (such as acute tonsillitis, cholecystitis, appendicitis, etc.), insect bites, etc. can also cause the occurrence of immediate symptomatic skin scratching. The onset of delayed symptomatic skin scratching is related to fungal allergy, and the antigen is often a fungal product, so tinea pedis patients are prone to delayed symptomatic skin scratching.

Simple skin scratches generally do not require treatment. For symptomatic skin scratches, the causative factors should be found and removed as much as possible. For example, patients who are taking penicillin should stop taking penicillin immediately; those with bacterial infections should receive anti-infection treatment; those with fungal infections such as tinea pedis can receive anti-fungal treatment, etc. Secondly, antihistamines such as chlorpheniramine and antalol can be used, which have certain therapeutic effects. In addition, some drugs that reduce the permeability of blood vessel walls can be used as auxiliary drugs, such as vitamin C, calcium supplements, etc. It is worth noting that penicillin should not be used for treatment of patients with skin scratches who suffer from other infectious diseases.

For a disease like skin scratches, we should disinfect it in our daily life. For example, if our skin is damaged by some blunt objects, the scratches may be infected with bacteria, so we should use alcohol to disinfect it to avoid infection of the wound. At the same time, the harm of skin scratches varies according to each person's physical condition.
