What is the difference between a scrub and an exfoliator?

Everyone has dead skin on their face, which is a very normal thing. Unless our body metabolism stops, it may follow us for a lifetime. Of course, we can use some methods to remove dead skin. Some people prefer to use scrubs, while others prefer to use exfoliating skin care products. So, what is the difference between these two products? Let’s take a closer look below.

The Difference Between Scrubs and Exfoliators

Scrub is mainly a physical method of exfoliation. The scrub particles contained in it are used to remove the old dead skin cells of the skin through massage and friction.

Exfoliating creams usually use chemical methods to remove dead skin cells. They do not contain abrasive particles, but use their own ingredients to soften the dead skin cells on the skin, forming dead skin flakes that can be removed with a rub.

Do not use scrubs frequently, as they will make your pores larger and your skin thinner. Usually, using it once every one to two weeks is enough.

As for exfoliating cream, its effect is not as good as scrub. It is also enough to use it once a week.

How many times a week should you use scrub?

Normal skin

With the right scrub, your complexion will look more radiant. Papaya and pineapple enzymes soften and remove dead and dull skin.

How often to exfoliate: two to three times a week.

Dry skin

A scrub containing almond and olive oil is recommended to replenish the skin's natural oils, leaving it soft and smooth without feeling dry or tight. Exfoliate once or twice a week to avoid over-drying your skin.

Combination skin

Choose an oil-free moisturizing scrub, such as glycerin and hyaluronic acid, which can lock in moisture in the skin without making oily areas too greasy.

Exfoliation frequency: Twice a week, increasing the amount in the oily T-zone.

Oily skin and acne-prone skin

The pores are relatively large, so you should choose ingredients that can unclog the pores, such as salicylic acid.

Exfoliation frequency: three times a week. For oily skin, increase the amount used each time.

Mature skin

For sensitive skin, it is best to use a scrub containing smooth beads. Avoid almond kernels, walnut shells, and salt particles with jagged edges.

Exfoliation frequency: once a week.

Regardless of your skin type, exfoliation is best done at night to remove any makeup that has accumulated throughout the day.
