Can asymmetric double eyelids be repaired?

Can asymmetric double eyelids be repaired?

Although double eyelid surgery is not considered a major surgery among many current medical cosmetic surgeries, some unpredictable accidents may still occur, such as surgical infection, asymmetric double eyelids, etc. Cases like asymmetric double eyelids can be repaired through surgery, and there are special research projects on this in the cosmetology department. The reason for asymmetry is mainly due to poor design and the doctor's operational errors during the operation, but generally speaking, this asymmetry can be repaired.

Causes of asymmetrical double eyelids

1. The width of double eyelids was inconsistent during preoperative design;

2. The size and shape of the patient's eyes are not consistent;

3. Asymmetry of incision and separation after swelling anesthesia;

4. Traditional surgical methods are relatively traumatic and cause asymmetry due to tissue adhesion;

5. One eye has ptosis;

6. Domestic doctors are accustomed to removing too much muscle tissue and soft tissue, resulting in postoperative asymmetry;

7. When suturing, the skin and muscles are fixed to the pretarsal tissue at different heights, resulting in postoperative asymmetry. This is a problem of technique and experience.

8. It is related to the speed of swelling reduction. If the edema does not subside for a long time, lymphedema may occur, which will be difficult to completely subside. Even if the double eyelid lines on both sides are designed to be consistent, they will also be of different widths.

When can I have revision surgery?

Immediately after surgery, there is about a 50% chance that the patient's left and right eyes will look asymmetrical, and more than 90% of the reasons are caused by the difference in swelling between the left and right sides. Therefore, there is no need to worry too much about the asymmetry of double eyelids that appears in the early stage after surgery. It will generally disappear naturally in 1-2 months. Of course, if the asymmetry of the two eyes persists after surgery, generally for more than 3 months, it may require further surgery to repair it. Surgery is the only remedial measure. Correcting eye asymmetry places very high demands on doctors, as they not only need to redesign the width of the double eyelids, but also pay attention to the original incision.

How to solve the problem of asymmetric double eyelid line

1. The design should be symmetrical, including height, curvature, smoothness, distance from the inner and outer corners of the eyes, etc.;

2. The exposed surgical area on both sides is consistent, and the amount of swelling anesthesia is consistent;

3. One problem that needs attention is tissue adhesion. The first operation has caused great damage to the tissue, so the second operation must ensure the clarity of the surgical anatomical layer. Only by completely separating the adhered tissue can secondary adhesion be avoided.

4. When suturing the double eyelid surgery, the arc must be smooth and natural, and the anterior tarsal aponeurosis must be firmly fixed. If too much orbital fat was removed in the previous surgery, the medial fat can be released, or the lower eyelid orbital fat can be freely transplanted, or autologous fat can be injected in several times.
