Where are the massage points for eyelid spasm?

The importance of eyes to us is self-evident, but because many people use their eyes improperly and end up having eye problems, we must cherish our eyes. This is also a healthy lifestyle for us. So where are the massage points for blepharospasm? Knowing this, we can try this method when we have some eye diseases. Let’s take a look at it together.

The cause of blepharospasm is still unclear. Clinically, patients often have a history of cold face or prolonged wind exposure before the onset of the disease. It is an involuntary spontaneous spasmodic contraction of the periorbital orbicularis oculi muscle. Most patients experience frequent and involuntary strong eye closure, and the course of the disease is progressive. Because the exact pathogenesis has not been clarified yet, modern medicine has no specific treatment method. The most commonly used method is to inject botulinum toxin type A at selected points on the twitching muscles. The effect is more obvious, and each injection can last for about 3 months. Continuous treatment is required, but repeated injections of botulinum toxin type A can cause some facial muscles to atrophy, easily leading to a lack of expression and the appearance of a "zombie face." Other treatments, such as sedatives and surgical treatments, have serious side effects or are traumatic, so people rarely choose them.

As the saying goes, "The left eye twitching means good fortune, the right eye twitching means disaster." Many people have experienced eyelid twitching. However, most people only experience eyelid twitching occasionally or for a short period of time, so it is often joked that it can indicate good or bad luck. This type of eyelid twitching is mostly caused by excessive fatigue or eating certain irritating foods. It has nothing to do with good or bad luck, and does not require any medical treatment. It will disappear as long as you get enough rest or pay attention to your diet.

However, some people's eyelids twitch frequently, which may last for months or even years, and they blink widely, causing facial muscles to twitch. In severe cases, the twitching may even extend to the cheeks, around the lips, and around the chin. Eyelid twitching like this is likely to be pathological. Modern medicine calls it blepharospasm, and Chinese medicine calls it eyelid twitching. Although blepharospasm is painless and poses little threat to physical health, prolonged eyelid twitching can easily cause distress to the patient's mood and sleep, and the patient often becomes irritable and his or her personality changes as a result.

Blepharospasm is called blepharospasm in traditional Chinese ophthalmology. The ancient Chinese medical book "Shenshi Yaohan" records: "This symptom is that the eyelids are pulled and vibrated without waiting for the person to open and close them. It is a disease of Qi, and belongs to the liver and spleen meridians." Because the patient has liver and spleen qi blood deficiency, the blood cannot nourish the tendons, and the blood deficiency generates wind. The virtual wind goes up the liver meridian and disturbs the eyes, so the muscles are contracted and the eyes are blurred. Traditional Chinese medicine eye protection treatment mainly selects some important eye acupoints such as Zanzhu, Chengqi, Sizhu, Sibai, as well as the important acupoints on the Stomach Meridian of Foot Yangming with abundant qi and blood such as Jiache, Dicang, Zusanli, etc., to strengthen the spleen and soften the liver, nourish yin and blood, so as to relieve the symptoms of tendon and vein stiffness.

The above is a detailed explanation of the massage points for blepharospasm. We can see that it is relatively simple to grasp the acupoints and does not require us to spend too much time and energy. Of course, in addition to this, in our daily work and study, we must cherish our eyes and not let them be harmed for various reasons.
