Can facial masks really improve skin?

Nowadays, people love beauty very much, especially women. In order to make themselves more beautiful, they usually do a lot of skin care work, such as using various skin care products and cosmetics. In addition, applying facial masks is a habit of many people. There are many benefits of applying facial masks, such as quickly hydrating the skin, and also solving problems such as wrinkles and spots on the face. In short, the function of facial masks is still very powerful.

Can facial masks really improve skin?

Yes, but I think daily skin care is more important than facial masks.

In the past one or two years, I haven't used facial masks, but I think my skin has indeed improved by cleansing (including using products with salicylic acid and fruit acid ingredients to unclog pores, and then using a cleansing mask), sun protection (basically 365 days a year unless I stay at home), and adding functional essences and functional creams.

Facial masks definitely have some effect, but they are definitely not as effective as other products that stay on the skin for a long time. Of course, the kind that is not washed after use may have a greater effect. I think the main function of a facial mask is the immediate effect. If you are going to put on makeup or meet an important person afterwards, it might be better to apply a facial mask. Of course, it has to be a more expensive mask. Ordinary masks feel like the effect is similar to soaking in water for more than ten minutes, and they will lose their effect after a while.

The main ingredients of most facial masks are water, moisturizers, thickeners, preservatives, functional ingredients, etc. Water is the solvent of the mask, with the highest content, and is the main source of moisture. Moisturizers can hold water due to the hydroxyl groups they contain and thus have a certain moisturizing effect. Thickeners can adjust the viscosity of the mask. Products containing water must have preservatives, as masks are prone to breeding bacteria, and therefore have high requirements for preservatives. Effective ingredients are the "main force" of skin care, such as plant extracts, marine organisms, etc., and are also the key to determining the effectiveness of the entire mask. Ordinary hydrating masks, or concept masks such as red wine, silk, and bird's nest, although they have skin care effects, their effects are limited, lack scientific basis, and cannot be exaggerated.

Many women like to make their own facial masks, but experts do not agree with this. People with sensitive skin should not conduct experiments on their faces. Although the nutrients in some fruits and vegetables are good for the skin, they are difficult to be absorbed by the skin and may cause irritation. Improper homemade preparations may also lead to safety issues such as microbial contamination and allergies caused by ingredients. Doctors often encounter cases where patients seek medical treatment due to allergies to plant juices.

Many people like to buy facial masks online, which invisibly increases the chance of buying inferior or counterfeit masks. These masks often contain hormones, which can make the skin white and tender in a short period of time and achieve "magical" effects, but long-term use can lead to hormone-dependent dermatitis. Fluorescent masks are also common "toxic masks". After applying them, your facial skin will feel white and bright, but the fluorescent agent is difficult to be metabolized by the skin, and long-term use will induce allergies.
