Finasteride can block the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone and block the binding of androgens to androgen receptors, preventing the atrophy of hair follicles on the forehead and top of the scalp and reversing the process of hair loss; minoxidil can inhibit hair loss and promote hair regeneration, preventing the progression of hair loss. Therefore, at present, male AGA is usually treated with a combination of oral finasteride and topical minoxidil. After 6 months or more of treatment, most patients can see cessation of hair loss or regrowth of hair.
