How is hormone face formed?

Hormone face is a skin disease caused by long-term use of hormone drugs or skin care products, which makes the facial skin dependent on hormones. Once you stop using hormone skin care products, the skin will become very bad, with wrinkles, acne, skin allergies, redness, swelling, soreness, and even local infections. Once you continue using hormone products, these symptoms will disappear immediately, and the harm to the human body is still very great.

The scientific name of hormone face is corticosteroid-dependent dermatitis (abbreviated as hormone-dependent dermatitis), which refers to dermatitis caused by long-term use of topical corticosteroids, and is characterized by dependence on hormones.

Symptoms

1. In the same area, long-term use of topical corticosteroids can cause dark spots, wrinkles, rosacea-like dermatitis, acne-like dermatitis, rupture of subcutaneous elastic fibers leading to sagging skin, severe dilation of capillaries, and diffuse dilation of tiny blood vessels. Especially after being exposed to cold or heat stimuli, the skin becomes red, itchy, and swollen; sensitivity increases; premature aging; enlarged pores; abnormally increased and thickened sweat hair, etc.

2. After the skin becomes dependent on the hormone product, once the hormone product is discontinued, within 1-5 days, the mildest symptoms include desquamation, sensitivity, redness, swelling, itching, and pain. In severe cases, the skin at the medication site becomes fragile and tight, and the skin develops significant erythema, pigmentation, atrophy, stretch marks, capillary dilation, papules, chapped skin, scaling, dry desquamation, small pustules, burning sensation, tenderness, itching, and even yellow discharge, tension, and redness when exposed to heat. The patient has to continue using hormones, and the dependence on hormones is more obvious. When the product is used again, the above symptoms and signs will quickly subside. If the drug is discontinued, the dermatitis symptoms will recur quickly and gradually worsen, and the effect will decrease. It is necessary to increase the dosage or switch to a more potent hormone product.

3. In severe cases, hormones can be absorbed through the skin and enter the blood circulation, causing iatrogenic diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, liver and kidney damage, obesity, menstrual disorders, and aggravation of existing cardiovascular diseases in the elderly.

How to distinguish?

Signs: Facial skin may experience varying degrees of atrophy, thinning, shiny, diffuse flushing or skin erythema, or capillary dilation, local swelling, cracking and desquamation, or acne-like rash or rosacea-like dermatitis or skin atrophic striae or folliculitis pustules.

Symptoms: Local itching, burning pain, tightness, distension or dry discomfort. The above symptoms are aggravated by heat (such as sun exposure, hot bath, hot steam fumigation) and alleviated by cold.

After discontinuation: The primary disease worsens after discontinuation of corticosteroids, and there are obvious symptoms of hormone dependence, that is, the condition improves rapidly after topical application of corticosteroids. Once the drug is stopped, a more severe hormone rebound dermatitis will occur, ranging from 1 to 2 days to 3 to 5 days, and may even induce bacterial and fungal infections.
