It is often used in combination with vaseline, and it can increase the water absorption and penetration of vaseline.

It is mainly used in the machinery industry to manufacture high-grade anti-rust oil; the pharmaceutical industry to manufacture rheumatism ointment and zinc oxide adhesive plaster; the chemical fiber industry to manufacture synthetic fibers and synthetic resins; the daily chemical industry to manufacture anti-cracking ointment, cold cream, and high-grade soap. It has special effectiveness in protecting the skin from cracks and can also be extracted for the pharmaceutical industry to produce hormones.

Take 0.5g of this product, add 5ml of chloroform to dissolve it, then add 1ml of acetic anhydride and 2 drops of sulfuric acid, and it will turn dark green. [Inspection] Acidity and alkalinity: Take 10g of this product, add 50ml of water, heat in a water bath to melt, stir constantly, cool, remove the separated fat, and the remaining aqueous solution should be clear. Take 10 ml of this solution and add 1 drop of phenolphthalein indicator solution. No red color should appear. Take another 10 ml of this solution and add 1 drop of methyl red indicator solution. No red color should appear. Chloride: Take 0.2g of this product, place it in a conical flask, add 27ml of ethanol, heat and reflux for several minutes, cool, add 0.5ml of nitric acid, filter, add 5 drops of silver nitrate ethanol solution (1→50) to the filtrate, if turbidity occurs, compare it with the control solution [take 20ml of ethanol, add 7.0ml of standard sodium chloride solution, 0.5ml of nitric acid and 5 drops of silver nitrate ethanol solution (1→50)], it must not be more concentrated (0.035%). For easily oxidizable substances, take 10 ml of the aqueous solution left over from the above acidity and alkalinity items, add 1 drop of potassium permanganate titration solution (0.02 mol/L), and the red color must not disappear completely within 5 minutes. Insoluble matter in ethanol: Take 0.5 g of this product, add 40 ml of anhydrous ethanol, boil, the solution should be clear or at most slightly turbid. Loss on drying: Take the product, stir from time to time, and dry at 105°C to constant weight. The loss in weight shall not exceed 0.5%. The residue on ignition shall not exceed 0.15%.
