Dark circles under the eyes are related to the liver

Dark circles under the eyes are related to the liver

Nowadays, many people have dark circles under their eyes, a large part of which is caused by staying up late. But there are many other reasons for dark circles under the eyes besides staying up late. Some diseases can also cause dark circles under the eyes. In this case, you need to go to the hospital for examination in time and receive treatment as soon as possible to avoid more serious consequences to the liver. So, does dark circles under the eyes have anything to do with the liver?

1. What is the close relationship between eyes and liver?

1. Dark circles under the eyes

One of the reasons for dark circles under the eyes is that it is a manifestation of certain liver diseases. Pigmentation on the face and around the eye sockets is an external manifestation of some chronic diseases, such as chronic liver disease. Especially in those with long-term abnormal liver function and liver enlargement, dark circles often exist for a long time. About 20% of patients with liver disease have pigmentation in exposed areas, such as the face and around the eye sockets, which appear as "dark circles".

2. Eyes are often dry, itchy and afraid of light

These problems indicate that insufficient liver blood leads to insufficient liver yin to nourish the eyes. This is because the eyes need nourishment from liver yin. If liver yin is insufficient, there will be a lack of fluid to nourish the eyes, which will especially cause itchy eyes and fear of light.

3. Red and bloodshot eyes

If the liver fire is too strong, it will cause the eyes to become red, irritated, and even inflamed. Liver fire or wind-heat evil qi ascends along the liver meridian and reaches the eyes, causing the eyes to become more irritated and turn red. When excessive liver fire reaches the eyes, it can cause eye inflammation and the appearance of red bloodshot eyes.

4. Yellowing of the sclera

"Yellowing of the sclera" is an important basis for diagnosing liver disease. Hepatitis A and acute hepatitis B almost always have "yellowing of the sclera" to varying degrees. If corneal pigment rings are present, this is a major feature of patients with Wilson's disease.

How to deal with it

First: Eat healthy and nutritious food

It is necessary to reduce the burden on the liver and at the same time provide adequate nutrition to repair damaged liver cells and restore liver function. In order to ensure the needs of liver cell repair and regeneration, it is better to eat more milk, eggs and meat; in order to meet the needs of glycogen content and metabolism in liver cells, carbohydrates and vitamins should be adequately supplied; at the same time, a low-fat diet should be adhered to, which will not only reduce the burden on the liver, but also help to restore health.

Second: Drink tea - mulberry and wheat coriander tea

Method: 1. Wash and cut coriander, wolfberry, cassia seed, eucommia ulmoides flower, kudzu root, buckwheat and licorice into sections, dry them in the sun until half dry, and then stir-fry them into tea for later use; 2. Wash and dice wild red roses, mulberry leaves, chrysanthemums and roselle, dry them and stir-fry them into tea for later use; 3. Add the stir-fried ingredients in a 1:1 ratio and soak them in water to drink every day.

Function: Remove liver toxins, prevent liver damage and alcoholic liver disease, and improve liver detoxification ability.

Pueraria root: Li Shizhen, a medical scientist in the Ming Dynasty, used it to treat liver disease. Modern pharmacological research shows that Pueraria root contains a variety of therapeutic ingredients, such as flavonoids (daidzin, acetylpuerarin, arachidic acid, etc.). Therefore, Pueraria root tea has the effects of clearing away heat, decomposing alcohol, sobering up, strengthening the stomach, and protecting the liver. It has obvious effects on lowering blood lipids, blood pressure, blood sugar, and assisting in the treatment of coronary heart disease, angina pectoris, neuralgia, etc.
