What are the effects of ceramide 3 on the skin?

Ceramide has a wide range of uses. For example, it has important applications in medicine. In addition, women often use some skin care products and cosmetics. Many of these products contain ceramide ingredients. Women love beauty very much and hope that their skin can maintain very good elasticity. Ceramide has the function of moisturizing the skin and increasing skin elasticity. In addition, ceramide 3 has the following effects on the skin.

Effects of Ceramide 3 on the skin:

1. Moisturizing effect: Ceramide is the main component of the lipids in the stratum corneum of the skin. It can help repair the skin barrier and make the skin soft and shiny. But as we age, ceramides gradually decrease, and the skin becomes dull and dry due to lack of it.

2. Barrier function: Sufficient ceramide in the skin can resist external stimulation, but if it is missing or absent, the skin will lose its natural protective function, and the sun and snow will make you a "vulnerable woman".

3. Anti-allergic effect: Students with thin skin please pay attention! Ceramide can help thicken the stratum corneum, improve the tolerance of the entire skin, avoid sensitivity and repair red blood vessels!

4. Assisted whitening: In addition, ceramide has very good anti-aging, auxiliary whitening and antioxidant effects.

The role of ceramide in the stratum corneum

1. Barrier effect

Studies have shown that liposomes in the stratum corneum have a regulatory effect on the skin barrier function; subsequent studies have found that ceramide plays a dominant role in the regulation of barrier function in liposomes. Grubauer et al. found that the skin barrier function can be lost by removing ceramides from the stratum corneum of the epidermis. Experiments by Imokawa et al. confirmed that topical application of a certain amount of natural or synthetic ceramides can restore the skin barrier function lost due to treatment with organic solvents or surfactants.

Ceramide can activate aging cells, promote epidermal cell division and basal cell regeneration, enhance the skin barrier (or isolation protection) function, and prevent the invasion of external irritants.

2. Polymerization

As mentioned earlier, the molecular structure of ceramide determines that ceramide is both hydrophilic and hydrophobic, and this property can significantly enhance the adhesion between keratinocytes. Rawhngs et al. studied the desquamation mechanism in humans with dry skin. Studies have found that the main cause of dry skin is the reduction of ceramide content in the epidermal stratum corneum, and the amount of ceramide is directly related to the degree of skin dryness. At the same time, many experimental studies have shown that the use of ceramide can significantly enhance the adhesion between keratinized cells, thereby improving skin dryness and reducing skin desquamation.

3. Water holding capacity

Imokawa et al. conducted experiments to study which lipid component plays a dominant role in the restoration of skin moisture. The study found that topical application of ceramides can lead to a very significant increase in skin conductivity; cholesterol is second; while the effects of free fatty acids and cholesterol esters are not obvious. Ceramide has a very strong ability to associate with water molecules. It maintains the moisture of the skin by forming a network structure in the stratum corneum. Therefore, ceramide is a highly effective moisturizer with a moisturizing ability 16 times that of hyaluronic acid. It is especially effective in moisturizing elderly dry skin, with an efficiency of 80%. It is also easily absorbed by the skin and can promote the penetration of other nutrients.

4. Anti-allergic effect

Harmful substances from the outside world (bacteria, viruses, etc.) can invade the skin through keratinized cells or their gaps, hair follicles, sebaceous glands and sweat gland ducts. The thicker the stratum corneum, the more difficult it is for these harmful substances to penetrate the skin. So the so-called "exfoliation" is really "digging your own grave"! Ehas et al. have done a lot of research on the role of neurosheath esters in the stratum corneum of the epidermis. They have conducted skin experiments using skin care products containing ceramide, and the results confirmed that skin care products containing ceramide can significantly thicken the skin's stratum corneum. The thickening of the stratum corneum can effectively inhibit the invasion of harmful substances and avoid the invasion of bacteria, viruses and other substances that cause skin allergies.
