Vinegar can remove xanthoma

Vinegar can remove xanthoma

Xanthophthalmos is a lipid metabolism disorder that middle-aged people are more likely to suffer from, and women are more likely to suffer from it than men. Because xanthoma usually appears on the eyelids, it gets its name. In the process of treating xanthophthalmos, patients will try some folk remedies for treatment. One saying is that vinegar can remove xanthophthalmos. So, how effective is vinegar in treating xanthophthalmia? Let’s take a closer look at it below.

Vinegar is an acidic chemical edible liquid. It is not destructive to the skin, but it can improve the skin environment. Theoretically, it has a protein solidifying effect on deep and shallow tumors due to its weak permeability. However, once the solidification effect is formed, proliferative changes will occur due to the skin's own protection. If it is applied externally continuously, the effect is limited, and it is only a matter of time before it causes overall damage and changes to the skin. Therefore, vinegar not only cannot remove xanthelasma, but can also cause damage to the skin. Therefore, it is impossible to remove xanthelasma with vinegar.

Xanthelasma, also known as "xanthelasma palpebral warts", is a skin disease caused by lipid metabolism disorders and is a very common type of xanthelasma. Xanthelasma are yellow or orange patches of skin caused by lipid deposits on the eyelids. It mostly occurs on the eyelids. Initially, it is as big as a grain of rice, slightly protruding from the skin, clearly separated from the normal skin, with irregular borders, and may even cover the entire eyelid. Generally, the incidence rate in women is higher than that in men, and the incidence rate gradually increases with age. In severe cases, it can compress the eye nerves. Clinically, some patients have symptoms of hyperlipidemia and high cholesterol.

Treatment of yellow eyelid tumor

Diet therapy

Diet therapy: If the patient exceeds the standard weight, he or she should lose weight; if the patient's triglycerides are elevated after testing, the total calories should be reduced, especially the intake of sucrose, and alcohol should be consumed less; if the patient's cholesterol level is elevated, the intake of cholesterol-containing foods should be reduced.

Drug therapy

Drug therapy: Eyelid xanthomas can often disappear within 1 year through diet therapy. If the symptoms do not subside, you can take clofibrate, 2 g per day, or you can take niacin, 3 g per day. The latter should be taken with meals, and you should avoid drinking alcohol and hot drinks at the same time to minimize the facial flushing. If the patient has a strong response to niacin, start with a small dose and gradually increase to 3 g per day. Boiling the Chinese medicine hawthorn and corn silk in water and drinking it also has certain therapeutic effects and you can take it consistently.

Surgical treatment

Surgical treatment: For patients with eyelid xanthomas with normal blood lipids, contact cryotherapy and surgical excision can be used. The contact freezing method is to use a cotton swab dipped in liquid nitrogen to contact the lesion. The freeze-thaw cycle is when the area turns white and then returns to its original yellow color. Depending on the thickness of the xanthomas, 6 to 12 freeze-thaw cycles may be applied. After freezing, do not get the area wet. The xanthomas will fall off in about a week. The remaining parts or recurring patients can be frozen again. The surgical excision must be thorough, and care must be taken not to cause deformation of the eye and affect its appearance during suturing after excision. Surgery is not the first choice for this disease, diet therapy is the first choice. Before surgery, the patient should be informed that the disease may recur.
