What causes chloasma on cheeks

A smooth, flawless and beautiful face is the pursuit of every beauty-loving woman. However, no matter how beautiful the figure is, it cannot resist the spots on the cheeks. As the saying goes, a white spot can hide a hundred flaws, but a spot can ruin everything. When you are enjoying the youngest and happiest time of your life, melasma can turn all your perfection into a regret and make you feel humiliated. However, some people have a smooth face without any spots. So, what is the cause of chloasma on people’s cheeks?

Facial chloasma affects facial beauty. It is mainly a symptom of facial melanosis, which is a pigmentation spot occurring on the face. The main causes of facial chloasma are female endocrine disorders, mental stress, various diseases (liver and kidney dysfunction, gynecological diseases, diabetes), lack of vitamins in the body and stimulation from external chemical drugs. For facial melasma, the main approach is to combine prevention and treatment. Regulating the female endocrine environment, maintaining a good mood, and actively preventing gynecological diseases are effective ways to prevent facial chloasma.

1. Endocrine disorders are not the cause of all pigmentation

For pregnant and postpartum women, pigmentation caused by endocrine disorders is relatively common; however, the proportion of pigmentation caused by decreased skin metabolic function is also increasing. The fundamental cause of pigmentation is excessive deposition of melanin, and each metabolic link may have an impact on it.

2. Bad living habits can also cause spots

Poor-quality cosmetics, anxiety, and long-term exposure to computers and mobile phones will promote the formation of pigmentation; extremely irregular diet and rest schedules are also the culprits for the aggravation of pigmentation. Summer is here, and strong ultraviolet radiation will cause pigmentation to spread and deepen in a short period of time.

Any type of pigmentation will result in different levels of problems with skin metabolism

Regardless of the type of spots, when the skin's metabolic function declines and melanin cells become active, when melanin cannot be metabolized in time, skin pigmentation problems such as spots and dark yellow skin will appear.

3. Causes

The formation of facial chloasma is due to the obstruction of the microcirculation between tissue cells, cell dissolution and death, and the increase of melanin to form pigmentation. The epidermis of the face is the thinnest, with the most abundant capillaries and the easiest to form pigmentation. The pigmentation area is mainly in the basal layer of the epidermis, and the melanin particles increase significantly. In more severe cases, there is also more melanin in the melanophages in the dermis. Compared with normal, the number of pigment cells, melanin formation and the activity of melanin particles have different increases.

Imbalance of Yin and Yang in the human body: First, stagnation of liver qi causes blood stasis on the face; second, weakness of the spleen and stomach causes qi and blood to be unable to moisturize the face, and dampness and heat rise to the face to form spots; third, deficiency of kidney yang causes the yang qi to diffuse, and blood stasis on the face forms facial chloasma.

After pregnancy, the placenta secretes more androgen and progesterone, so pregnant women often have symmetrically distributed facial chloasma on their cheeks. However, after delivery, when the body's androgen and progesterone secretion returns to normal, the spots will naturally lighten or disappear for most people.

Drug factors: 9% to 20% of women who take oral contraceptives for a long time are prone to facial chloasma. Some even develop facial spots one month after taking oral contraceptives. In addition, taking medicines for high blood pressure and diabetes and eating more photosensitivity foods such as celery, coriander, carrots, etc. can also easily cause facial chloasma.

Other factors: Some chronic diseases such as chronic hepatitis and tuberculosis can lead to increased tyrosinase activity and increased melanin production, while the body's own ability to eliminate melanin is weakened. Once melanin cannot be excreted from the body in time, facial chloasma will occur on the face over time; in addition, improper use of cosmetics can aggravate and accelerate the formation of facial chloasma. There are many causes of pigmentation.
