What are the functions of essential oils?

I believe that many female friends are familiar with essential oils, and often use them for skin care to achieve beauty and complexion effects. In fact, in addition to these, essential oils have many other functions, such as antibacterial and antimicrobial effects, antioxidant effects, mosquito repellent effects, etc. You can give full play to its value and make your life better.

1. Antibacterial and antimicrobial effects

Essential oil types: lavender essential oil, tea tree essential oil, etc.

We know that many skin inflammations are caused by bacterial infection or imbalance of bacterial flora. When faced with bacterial and fungal infections, many people may seek medical treatment and use antibiotics. However, when faced with stubborn bacterial infections, frequent use of large doses of drugs may cause the bacteria to develop drug resistance, which will have the opposite effect. Essential oils are relatively mild and are not likely to cause drug resistance in strains. Compared with drugs, they are suitable for long-term use.

2. Antioxidant Effect

Essential oil selection: cinnamon essential oil, lavender essential oil, etc.

Many essential oils also have excellent antioxidant properties. It is reported in some literature that many essential oils have the ability to scavenge DPPH free radicals in vitro. Through this test, the antioxidant properties of a substance can be evaluated. Many essential oils such as lavender essential oil, cinnamon essential oil, thyme essential oil, etc. have this excellent antioxidant ability, and can indeed fight aging when used as skin care products.

3. Mosquito repellent effect

Essential oil selection: citronella essential oil, peppermint essential oil, etc.

When the terpene compounds contained in the essential oil account for a large proportion, it has a better repellent effect. The active ingredients are monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes. Although the content of oxygen-containing derivatives is low, most of them are active ingredients and have excellent aroma, such as citronellol, citral, linalool, etc. These volatile substances can effectively and gently repel mosquitoes. Moreover, in today's society that advocates green themes, the use of plant essential oils in the prevention and control of pests and diseases will also be a major trend in the future.
