Are there any risks in eye bag surgery?

For older women, the most obvious sign of aging is probably around the eyes. Because the skin around the eyes is the thinnest part of the body, the loss of collagen will be reflected in this area, and bags under the eyes will naturally occur. The problem of eye bags cannot be solved by ordinary skin care products. If you want to effectively remove eye bags, you still have to go through surgery. But does this method have any risks?

1. Surgical method

After the surgery, the eyelids will be smooth, wrinkle-free, the skin will be shiny, and there will generally be no surgical marks on the skin incisions. A few patients will have redness at the incisions and mild scar hyperplasia in the early stages, which will generally disappear in about 1-3 months. Generally, except for the first removal of the eye bag skin, orbicularis oculi muscle and fat behind the orbital septum, it is usually not easy to recur. Because after adulthood, the human body's adipose tissue is mainly composed of hypertrophy of fat cells, and the number of fat cells will not increase. It should be noted that eye bag surgery is not as simple as it seems. Only through the correct judgment of different situations by doctors with rich clinical experience in regular hospitals can the best cosmetic effect be achieved while avoiding surgical complications. The most common ones are the following:

Liposuction (negative pressure method) to remove eye bags, surgery to remove eye bags, laser method to remove eye bags, radiofrequency ablation method to remove eye bags, ultrasound method to remove eye bags.

2. Precautions

(1) Design of surgical incision. It is directly related to the effectiveness of the surgery. The incision location design is closely related to the patient's requirements and the physician's aesthetic views, so the patient should have a serious discussion with the plastic surgeon before surgery to avoid disagreements after the surgery due to different understandings of the effects.

(2) Patients with scar-prone constitutions should not undergo this surgery, as it may cause scar hyperplasia and destroy the cosmetic effect.

(3) If there is an infection on the face, such as folliculitis, acne, etc., the facial skin disease should be cured before considering facial cosmetic surgery.

(4) If you have conjunctivitis in both eyes, you should first treat the eye disease and then undergo eye bag surgery.

(5) It is best for women not to undergo surgery during menstruation, because there will be a lot of bleeding during the operation and the local swelling will last for a long time and the reaction will be severe after the operation, which will affect the effect of the operation. Therefore, it is best to arrange the surgery 3 to 4 days after the menstruation ends.

3. Eye bag surgery

During the operation, care must be taken not to remove too much skin and orbicularis oculi muscle, especially the anterior part of the tarsal plate of the orbicularis oculi muscle, otherwise ectropion, the most common complication, may easily occur. During the operation, attention should be paid to stop bleeding thoroughly, otherwise postoperative hematoma will occur, affecting the effect of the operation.

Generally speaking, there will be obvious eye swelling and obvious cyanotic spots around the orbit three days after the operation. The sutures were removed 5 days after surgery. The swelling will basically subside one week after the operation, but mild cyanosis or yellow spots may still remain under the skin around the eye sockets. The swelling in the surgical area will completely subside within 10 to 20 days after the operation. If there is slight separation of the eyelid from the eyeball after the operation, it will generally return to normal in 2 to 3 months without the need for another surgery. If obvious ectropion occurs, surgery will be required again 3 to 6 months after surgery.
