The nose is a very important sense for humans, because it not only allows people to smell various odors, but also allows people to breathe normally. In addition, the nose also has a certain influence on a person's facial image. If the nose shape is not good-looking, it will inevitably affect the facial features and make the person look less delicate. Rhinoplasty is a relatively common nasal plastic surgery. The following is an introduction to the surgical process. 1. Anesthesia method Rhinoplasty can be performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of the surgery. If the doctor chooses general anesthesia, you will be asleep during the entire operation and will not feel anything. If you choose local anesthesia, you will remain awake during the operation, but your nose and surrounding tissues will feel numb and insensitive. However, you may feel some discomfort occasionally, so just relax. 2. Surgical Method A rhinoplasty procedure usually takes 40 minutes to an hour, although some more complex procedures may take longer. During the operation, the nasal bone and nasal dorsal fascia are peeled off, and then the nasal bone and nasal cartilage are sculpted according to medical aesthetics and the surgeon's requirements and skills, or a nasal stent that has been sculpted is directly implanted to achieve the effect you expect. Finally, the skin is sutured back into place. Most rhinoplasty surgeries involve incisions made inside the nostrils, leaving no visible marks after the surgery. The implant is made of materials that are compatible with human tissues, such as silicone rubber, polytetrafluoroethylene, etc. Rejection reactions are extremely rare and it is also easy to carve and shape. Most current rhinoplasty surgeries form an incision about 1 cm long on the inner side of the nostril edge at the junction of the columella and the ala nasi. Through this incision, a spacious cavity is separated under the dorsal nasal fascia and/or the periosteum of the nasal bone. The prosthesis is then carved according to the patient's requirements and the doctor's skills, or the carved prosthesis is directly implanted to achieve the desired effect. Finally, the skin is sutured back into place. Some more complicated surgeries often require an incision on the columella, which will leave an inconspicuous scar on the columella after the operation. 3. Postoperative treatment For the first 24 hours after surgery, you may experience facial swelling, nose pain, and a dull headache, all of which can be controlled with medication. It is best to lie in bed (except to go to the toilet) with your head elevated during the first day after surgery. You will notice some swelling and bruising around your eyes starting on the first day after surgery, peaking on the 2nd-3rd day after surgery. Applying a cold compress will reduce some of the swelling and make you feel better. The swelling usually goes away within 2-3 weeks after surgery. It is common to have some bleeding in the first few days after surgery. You may experience nasal congestion for a few weeks after surgery, and your doctor will ask you not to blow your nose during this time. Most rhinoplasty patients can walk the day after surgery and return to school one week after surgery, but it does take 3-4 weeks to fully return to normal. You should gradually resume your normal activities after surgery. Doctors recommend that you avoid strenuous exercise, such as running, swimming, and other exercises that can increase blood pressure, within 2-3 weeks after surgery. Avoid trauma or abrasion of the nose and avoid excessive exposure to sunlight for two months. Be gentle when washing your face, combing your hair, and applying makeup. You can wear contact lenses after surgery, but you can usually wear glasses 3-4 weeks after surgery. A New Nose Shape The swelling and bruising in the first few days after surgery may make you forget that your nose is going to look great. Many plastic surgery patients experience depression in the first few days after surgery, which is normal and understandable. Rest can help this unpleasant period of frustration pass more smoothly. Your nose will start to look better day by day, and your spirits will gradually improve. After 1-2 weeks, you will feel as good as never having had the surgery. However, healing from surgery is a slow and gradual process. Swelling at the tip of the nose may last for several months. Sometimes it takes a year or more to see the final results. At the same time, you may experience abnormal reactions from your family or friends, who may say that your nose has not changed much before and after the surgery, or even some people may resent you because you have changed their family or friends' views of you. If this happens, remember why you originally planned to have the surgery. If the surgery met your wishes, then your surgery was successful. |
