Treatment of Xanthelasma eyelid

Treatment of Xanthelasma eyelid

Xanthelasma is a skin disease characterized by single or multiple small yellow spots that slowly grow larger in shape. Some are round, some are oval, some are hoof-shaped or other irregular shapes, which particularly affect the image. This skin disease develops slowly, but is not easy to disappear on its own. It requires acquired surgical treatment or medical cosmetics. Xanthelasma is more common in middle-aged women, especially before and after menopause, so special attention should be paid.

Disease Introduction

Xanthelasma, also known as xanthelasma of the eyelid, is a common type of xanthelasma and is one of the lipid metabolism disorders. Because it often occurs on the eyelids, it can affect the appearance.

Xanthelasma eyelid is more common in middle-aged women, especially around menopause. It can occur in people with liver and gallbladder diseases, such as cirrhosis, and in people with cardiovascular diseases (coronary heart disease, etc.) or hyperlipidemia. However, more patients do not have obvious positive signs and test results of the above diseases.

The rash of xanthelasma appears as soft orange-yellow papules or plaques, which can be millet-shaped to the size of a penny, single or multiple, or they can merge into raised flat plaques. This type of wart often occurs on the upper and lower eyelids, especially the inner canthus of the upper eyelid. Sometimes the damage covers most of the eyelid, and even develops to the outer side of the upper and lower eyelids and spreads into a horseshoe shape, seriously affecting the appearance of the face.

Treatment Principle

Erbium laser is a solid-state pulsed laser with a wavelength of 2.94 microns, which is in the infrared region of the spectrum that is invisible to the human eye. When erbium laser pulses act on the skin, the energy is quickly absorbed by the tissue, causing the rapid heating of the superficial skin, resulting in instantaneous vaporization, separation and precise exfoliation of the tissue. Because the effect is shallow and the wound heals quickly, it is most suitable for darker skin and Asian skin types.

The divergence angle of CO2 laser is extremely small and the energy density is high. After focusing, it can reach a power of several kilowatts per square centimeter. It can be used in medicine to vaporize, burn or cut the lesion tissue, so the CO2 laser therapy device is also called a laser knife. The unfocused original light beam irradiating the diseased tissue can produce a coagulation effect. CO2 laser is an infrared light with a wavelength of 10.6nM. It can penetrate tissues deeply and, after beam expansion, can provide heat therapy for deep tissues.

【Indications】

Xanthelasma, also known as xanthelasma, is the most common xanthelasma and a metabolic skin disease. Once it occurs, it mostly occurs near the medial canthus on both sides, which is the central part of the face. It is often symmetrically distributed. The rash is relatively persistent, progressive and multiple, and may combine with each other.

【Contraindications】

(1) It is contraindicated for patients with pacemakers, cardiac electrodes or other metal devices in their bodies.

(2) Pregnant women.

(3) It is contraindicated for use by patients with immune deficiency, hypertension, or coronary heart disease.

(4) Patients with scar-prone constitution and skin infection in the area to be treated.

(5) Patients suspected of having skin cancer.

(6) Those who have unrealistic expectations.

【Notes】

(1) Preventing pigmentation: Mainly, you should avoid light as much as possible. You can choose to treat it in winter. In addition, for newly healed wounds, you can cover them with gauze for a period of time. This method helps to reduce pigmentation.

(2) The scab will fall off 7 to 14 days after the operation, and temporary skin erythema or pigmentation will appear in the operated area. After 1 month, the erythema and pigmentation will gradually subside, and the pigmentation will basically return to normal after 3 months. Avoiding sunlight for 3 months after treatment is key to preventing worsening pigmentation.

(3) Postoperative care: Patients should be advised not to allow the wound to get wet to prevent infection. Avoiding sunlight and radiation can effectively reduce pigmentation. Patients with chloasma and freckles have a longer recovery period for pigmentation. This should be informed in advance so that they can understand and cooperate with the treatment.

prevention
