Bruising after hyaluronic acid injection

Bruising after hyaluronic acid injection

With the development of the economy and changes in people's aesthetic views, more and more people now choose to inject hyaluronic acid to maintain skin vitality. Youth is inseparable from collagen, and hyaluronic acid can supplement collagen very well. Under normal circumstances, as long as you choose a regular hospital, a regular doctor, and regular hyaluronic acid, it is still very safe. But recently some people said that bruises appeared after hyaluronic acid injection. Why is this?

There are some objective little anomalies and concerns that should not be hidden. It is insincere to just applaud them. If these issues are brought up and discussed clearly, everyone's understanding of hyaluronic acid injections will be more comprehensive and three-dimensional. So don't be nervous, what I'm talking about below are normal phenomena. If you understand them clearly in advance, you won't panic or be confused when the time comes.

1. Redness and swelling after injection

Many online posts and WeChat articles like to talk about the redness, swelling and bruising after hyaluronic acid injection together. This is actually inappropriate because these two situations are not the same thing. Redness and swelling come from the high water absorption of hyaluronic acid. It's usually not noticeable and goes away quickly, so there's nothing to worry about. It is normal for swelling to last about 3 days after injection. For people with sensitive constitutions, the swelling period may be around 4-7 days.

After injecting hyaluronic acid, remember not to apply hot compresses or massage without authorization. Try not to touch the injection site within 6 hours. Do not eat spicy and irritating foods within a week. If redness, swelling, and nodules are still present after two weeks, you need to go to the hospital for a face-to-face consultation with the injection doctor.

2. Bruising after injection

Bruising of the skin after hyaluronic acid injection is also a common postoperative reaction. This is mainly because there are abundant capillaries under the skin, which will inevitably be touched during injection, causing small damage to the capillaries and causing bruises. So to put it simply, bruises are internal bleeding in the skin. Of course, as long as it is not a major damage, it is generally harmless. If you observe carefully, the bruise will disappear automatically within 4-7 days. If it persists for a long time, you need to see a doctor.

How to prevent bruises?

Stop taking aspirin and blood-activating and blood-stasis-removing drugs two weeks before the injection to reduce the causes of bleeding, otherwise the incidence of bruising will increase.

Patients who suffer from coagulation disorders such as hemophilia and thrombocytopenia are more likely to experience bruising, so they should confirm in detail with their doctor before the injection.

3. Muscles feel unnatural after injection

In fact, this is an illusion. During injection, hyaluronic acid is injected into the dermis or upper layer of the periosteum of the human body and does not act on the muscles. In principle, it is impossible to cause muscle abnormalities.

Of course, when using hyaluronic acid to fill large areas (such as apple cheeks, nasolabial folds, temples, and chin), the patient will indeed feel uncomfortable and have a foreign body sensation at first, but this is not a problem with the facial muscles. If there are no other abnormal symptoms, the condition will gradually improve in one to two weeks as the hyaluronic acid gradually blends into the skin.

4. Absorption too fast after injection

This question cannot be answered in a few words. First of all, one point should be emphasized: for those who are receiving hyaluronic acid injections for the first time, the absorption will generally be slightly faster. Although hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally present in the skin, the skin cannot just sit there and watch when so much of it is suddenly injected into it, so it happily starts its intensive absorption mode. However, the skin's absorption capacity is limited, and with a few additional injections, the effect will last much longer.
