What is the difference between nose tip reduction and nose wing reduction?

The nose looks like a whole, but in cosmetology the nose is divided into several parts. The most common ones are the nose wings and the nose tip, which are two completely different parts. The nose wings are located on both sides of the nose bridge, and the nose tip is the tail end of the nose bridge. Therefore, when doing rhinoplasty, you must not confuse these two parts. So, what is the difference between nose tip reduction and nose wing reduction?

There are three main types of surgical methods for nose tip reduction:

1. Cartilage transplantation method for nose tip reduction surgery: make an incision in the nasal margin or in the cartilage inside the nostril to expose the alar cartilage and lateral nasal cartilage, and remove the cranial part of the alar cartilage or the caudal part of the lateral nasal cartilage depending on the situation. The removed cartilage is cut into shape and sewn to the top of the dome to raise the tip of the nose. The concha cartilage can also be cut for transplantation.

2. The nose tip reduction surgery is performed by bringing the medial crus of the alar cartilages closer together. Incisions are made on the sides of the columella to expose the medial crus and dome of the alar cartilages. The soft tissue between the two medial crus is removed. Then, a mattress suture is made near the upper and lower ends to bring the two medial crus closer together. This method can raise the nose tip by 2-3mm.

3. Wedge resection of the alar base for nose tip reduction surgery. If the nose tip is in good shape but only slightly low, a wedge-shaped piece of full-thickness tissue is removed from the alar base on both sides to make the nostrils retract and the dome protrude, thus raising the nose tip.

There are several ways to reduce nose size.

Mild nose reduction: using columella to reduce nose wing

If the nose is only slightly wide, you can insert a columella auxiliary column or perform autologous cartilage transplantation on the nasal tip. This can tighten the enlarged nose by raising the nose tip and reduce its size to a certain extent.

Nostril incision + nose wing suture

If you are a beauty lover with wide nose wings and wide nostrils, you can carefully perform a partial removal of the nose wing base and nostril reduction surgery. The incision is located at the base of the nose and the lower part of the nose groove. Under local anesthesia, part of the full-thickness tissue of the nose base is appropriately removed, then the nostril is rotated inward and pushed forward to narrow the nostril, and layered interrupted sutures are performed. The length of the visible scar after surgery generally does not exceed 1CM.

Nostril Convergence Method to Reduce Nose Wings

If the nose wing edge is relatively wide and alar reduction surgery is required, then you can choose to make an incision at the junction of the nose wing and cheek, and remove 5-8mm of nose wing skin. This can narrow the nose wing, lengthen the nostrils from flat, and raise the nose tip.

Removal of tissue above the nasal cartilage to reduce the nasal wing

If the beauty-loving fairy has thick nose wings or the area above the nose wing groove is too plump, then the nose tissue can be made slender and petite by removing some fat and connective tissue above the nose wing cartilage and, if necessary, removing some nose tip cartilage.
