What are the types of mandibular angle resection surgeries?

As the aesthetic concepts in today's society are changing, they are gradually changing. Now most people think that delicate and small faces are more beautiful. However, some people are born with square faces, so they would think of changing their face shape through surgery, such as mandibular angle resection surgery. There are many methods for this surgery, such as extraoral incision, incision behind the ear, intraoral incision, etc. You can choose according to your own situation.

1. Extraoral incision: Make a 3-5 cm incision at the mandibular angle to remove the mandibular angle. Advantages: The operation is performed under direct vision and is relatively safe; it does not require complicated equipment or instruments, and part of the masticatory muscles can be removed at the same time.

2. Postauricular incision: Make a 3-4 cm incision behind the ear to remove the mandibular angle. Advantages: The incision is relatively concealed and the operation is relatively simple.

3. Combined intra-oral and extra-oral incision: A 3 cm to 4 cm incision inside the mouth and two 0.5 cm to 0.8 cm incisions under the mandible are used to easily remove the enlarged mandibular angle. At the same time, the outer plate of the mandible and the mandibular margin can be removed or ground, and part of the masseter muscle can be removed. Advantages: The operation is very convenient and many beginners use this method. The micro incision under the mandible will heal over time and the marks will not be noticeable.

4. Submandibular micro-incision: All surgical procedures are completed through a combined incision inside and outside the mouth, with a 0.5 cm to 0.8 cm tiny incision made by inserting an electric saw. The incision is below the mandible and will not be noticeable after 3 to 6 months. Advantages: This method does not involve any incision in the mouth, so the surgical trauma is minimal and the postoperative recovery is quick.

5. Complete intraoral incision: A 3 cm to 4 cm arc-shaped incision is made inside the mouth to remove the hypertrophic mandibular angle. At the same time, the outer plate of the mandible and the mandibular margin can be removed or ground, and part of the masseter muscle can be removed. Advantages: Because the entire operation only involves an intraoral incision, no surgical scars will be left on the body surface. The surgical trauma is much smaller than that of a combined intraoral and extraoral incision, and recovery is significantly faster.
