What to do if your cheeks turn red

What to do if your cheeks turn red

When people meet a child with rosy cheeks on the street, they will always praise the child for looking so good. If the cheeks are naturally red, it means that people's bodies are developing normally and are very healthy. But usually there are many factors that cause red cheeks, and both psychological and physiological factors may cause it. For example, when people feel angry or ashamed, or when they suffer from diseases such as high blood pressure, their cheeks will turn red. So, what should you do if your cheeks are red?

Cause

Blushing can be physiological or pathological. Some healthy people have better peripheral blood circulation, and their complexion will be rosy after a little activity; some people will blush when they are shy, angry or ashamed; some people may blush due to drinking; people living in the mountains, because the air is thinner, the body needs more red blood cells to absorb enough oxygen, and once the hemoglobin carried by red blood cells increases, the color of the face will be redder; some people blush due to menopause, some people blush due to systemic diseases. Such as hypertension, tuberculosis, lupus erythematosus, etc. Don't worry about physiological blushing. As for pathological blushing, you should consult a doctor.

From a medical point of view, blushing means that the face becomes redder more easily than other people due to changes in temperature or emotions, and the color is darker and lasts longer. There are blood vessels in the skin, which expand or contract due to nerve factors. Especially the cheeks are rich in capillaries, so the cheeks are more likely to turn red. If facial blushing only occurs in winter, it has more to do with temperature changes.

Generally speaking, heat causes blood vessels in the skin to dilate, causing facial flushing. Although cold causes blood vessels to constrict, when the temperature rises, the blood vessels will rebound and expand, causing blushing. But for some people, blushing may occur due to abnormal dilation of blood vessels in extremely cold temperatures. The clinical manifestations are filamentous, dot-like, star-shaped or flake-like patches on the face.

When the temperature difference is too great, such as when you go from a cold room to an air-conditioned room, and the temperature fluctuates between hot and cold, the capillaries lose their elasticity due to repeated contraction and expansion, which is reflected in the cheeks and nose, causing the cheeks to become red and stinging. In the early stages, the face will turn red and return to its original state immediately, but if it continues for a long time, the blood vessels will contract, lose their dilation function, and harden in an over-dilated state, making the face look red even at normal times. In severe cases, facial flushing may occur after lowering the head and then raising it again. This symptom is relatively mild in spring, summer and autumn, but becomes severe in winter.

Another situation is the side effect of taking belladonna tablets.

5 tips to help you get rid of blushing

1. It is best to wash your face with warm water, and then wash with cold water for 30 seconds (but if you feel anything unusual on your face, please stop washing immediately to avoid damaging your skin!). The facial cleanser should be one that you have used before without any adverse reactions. Do not try a new facial cleanser, otherwise it may cause allergies. Remember to be very gentle when washing your face to avoid hurting your skin.

2. Do not use moisturizing water after washing your face. Although moisturizing is important, most moisturizing water on the market now contains alcohol. Excessive use will irritate our already fragile skin. Apply a gentle facial cream directly, preferably the kind that is gentle enough for babies.

3. It is not enough to just do a good job of cleaning. Internal adjustments are also required. Pay attention to sleep. You should eat more citrus fruits on a daily basis, as they can strengthen the capillaries. However, don’t eat too much at once, as this will not do your body any good. Take it step by step.

4. Taking some vitamins every day, such as vitamin E, A, and C, can enhance skin elasticity and is effective in resisting red blood streaks.

5. When the sun is strong, it is best to wear a hat when going out and do not apply sunscreen, as those cosmetics will only increase the burden on your skin. In short, it’s best to stick with just one cream.

prevention

1. Avoid alcohol and spicy food

People with facial flushing have relatively sensitive skin, especially the flushed areas. Sometimes, small itchy bumps will appear even without mosquito bites. For this kind of skin, you should avoid spicy food, alcohol and other irritating foods. Alcohol and spicy food can cause internal heat and capillary dilation, and the first reaction on the face is facial flushing. Of course, spicy food and alcohol are the nemesis of good skin.

2. Do more moisturizing massage on the flushed area

Facial flushing often occurs in people with dry skin, and the degree of dryness is more serious than other parts of the face. The work to reduce flushing starts with moisturizing, and moisturizing work should be done conscientiously every morning and evening. However, choosing moisturizing products itself requires certain skills and cannot be chosen casually, especially for men, many moisturizing products contain alcohol. As mentioned above, people with facial flushing are prohibited from using alcohol. Therefore, when choosing a product, it is best to ask clearly or try it on the inside of your arm and then smell it to see if there is any smell of alcohol.

Precautions

Doctors recommend that you avoid overly cold environments and drastic temperature changes in winter, and pay attention to moisturizing and keeping your skin warm. In particularly dry and hot indoor environments, if your face feels dry, you should replenish water in time and use warm water to wash your face. When you go outdoors, you can use a scarf or mask to prevent cold air from directly attacking your face, and avoid large differences in humidity and temperature, which will cause the dilated capillaries to contract rapidly when exposed to cold, forming red blood vessels. People with a history of facial frostbite should rub their faces frequently in winter to promote blood circulation.

In terms of diet, doctors say that people who blush easily should eat less foods that increase vasodilation, such as coffee, tea, cola and other caffeinated foods. Supplementing with some B vitamins can also help nerve repair and have a calming effect. In addition, you should avoid sun exposure, alcohol, spicy and irritating food, and avoid anger, tension or excessive excitement, as these will contribute to facial blushing.
