What are the benefits of acid peels?

To put it simply, fruit acid peel means using fruit acid to change the skin. A relatively high concentration of fruit acid is used to exfoliate the skin's keratin, thereby allowing the aged stratum corneum to fall off, speeding up cell renewal. This method can not only improve enlarged pores, but also has a good effect on treating acne scars. The safety of fruit acid peel is very high, and most importantly, there are no side effects.

Skin change process

1. A skin test should be done before fruit acid peeling.

2. After washing the affected area with a special cleanser, the doctor will use a high concentration of glycolic acid

(20% to 70%) Apply on the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin in order. After a few minutes, spray with neutralizing solution to terminate the effect of glycolic acid. Then apply ice to relieve pain and redness, and then apply nourishing cream.

3. During the treatment, the patient will feel some tingling, and will also experience slight redness and pain within two days after treatment. If there is a scab, it will fall off on its own within seven days and must not be picked off. It is still effective even if there is no peeling after treatment. Generally speaking, about eight to ten peels are needed to achieve the best results. Each peel is done two to four weeks apart, and the concentration and duration of use of fruit acid will gradually increase.

Use concentration

In the United States, the concentration of fruit acid skin care products sold in general beauty supply stores is only 3% to 10%. The concentration of home fruit acid skin peeling products sold domestically is generally between 3% and 4.5%.

This type of product basically just dilutes the medical fruit acid. As long as you do a skin test before use and pay attention to moisturizing and sun protection after use, it is safe. However, when using high-concentration fruit acid products exceeding 10%, a dermatologist is required to perform the operation.

Dr. Bailey, an expert from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, said that fruit acid peels are generally safe, but they may also have some side effects. They have received some reports of side effects, including itching and redness during the peel process, but these usually disappear within a day or two of treatment.

"However, for Chinese people, there are still many limitations to fruit acid skin peeling." Director Zhang said that if the spots are lighter in color, that is, only pigmentation occurs in the epidermis, fruit acid will have a certain effect; but if the pigment is deposited in the dermis, it will be powerless.

Moreover, perhaps due to skin type, fruit acid peels can sometimes lead to deeper pigmentation, making the skin darker, which is particularly obvious in Asians. Therefore, even if you use a home acid peel, you should still talk to your doctor and remember, "Do not sunbathe within 2 to 4 weeks after peeling."

Precautions

After a chemical peel, it will take anywhere from a few days to a week for your skin to fully return to normal. During this period, special attention should be paid to fruit acid peel care. Experts say that since each person's situation is different, the care after fruit acid skin peeling is also different, but you must listen to the doctor's advice and do it carefully and effectively to ensure the final effect.

1. If there is skin swelling after acid peel, please apply ice compress within 24 to 48 hours after the acid peel.

2. About 1-7 days after the acid peel,

Wash your face with clean water every day, pat dry with a towel (avoid rubbing the skin hard), and use ointment or nourishing cream as directed by your doctor after washing your face (once in the morning and once in the evening) until your skin returns to normal.

3. When the skin returns to normal after about 1-7 days, you can stop using ointments or nourishing creams. You can gently use cleansing products to wash your face, but do not wipe it hard with a sponge or towel. Pat it dry gently to avoid irritating the skin. You can resume using your original fruit acid care cream, fruit acid lotion or fruit acid gel once every night.

4. Before your skin returns to normal, absolutely avoid sun exposure. To avoid pigmentation, do not use sunscreen lotion or wear a hat. To avoid forming indentations. After returning to normal, you should apply sunscreen lotion when going out. Sun protection is the most important aspect of aftercare for acid peels.

5. Slight irritation, itching, burning sensation, slight pain, tightness, peeling or slight scarring on the face. These symptoms will gradually disappear over time (about a week) until you return to normal.
