What to do if your nose itches after rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a relatively common surgical plastic surgery. Generally, some materials will be filled during the rhinoplasty operation to achieve the effect of rhinoplasty. During the recovery stage, the nose will become itchy. At this time, you must pay attention to prevent infection and prevent poor recovery. To avoid plastic surgery failure, let us learn more about this aspect.

What to do if your nose itches after rhinoplasty

The recovery time after rhinoplasty is not fixed. It usually takes about 1 month for the swelling to completely subside, and the best results are achieved after 3 months. The differences in the patient's physical fitness, the skills of the rhinoplasty surgeon, and the post-operative care performed by the patient will all affect the final recovery time required for rhinoplasty. However, the recovery experience during the first week after surgery is generally similar.

The recovery phases are as follows:

Stage 1: The evening after rhinoplasty surgery. A small amount of bloody liquid flows out of the nostrils where the rhinoplasty incision was made, or blood scabs form at the edge of the nostrils; there is mild swelling and pain at the tip and back of the nose; the middle part of the face begins to swell.

Pain usually occurs within 24 hours after rhinoplasty. When the pain is unbearable, you can take some analgesics, such as painkillers, ibuprofen, etc.

The second stage: 2-3 days after prosthetic rhinoplasty. The pain in the nose and face has basically disappeared, but the swelling is becoming more and more obvious, reaching a peak on the 4th day. People with poor coagulation function will have facial bruises, which are more common around the eyes, like panda eyes, and the external shape of the nose is unclear. Some people may experience conjunctival congestion.

The third stage: 4-6 days after prosthetic rhinoplasty. The swelling gradually subsides, and the recovery process of prosthetic rhinoplasty is that the color of the bruise area around the eyes gradually changes from red to yellow, and there is still tenderness at the tip and back of the nose. If there is conjunctival hemorrhage, the hemorrhage will basically disappear during this period.

Stage 4: 7 days after prosthetic rhinoplasty. The bruises on the face have been absorbed, but the nose still looks unnatural. The skin on the back and tip of the nose is shiny, the wound has healed completely, and there is no pain when pressing.

Warm reminder: right after the operation, before the nose swells, you can look in the mirror to see what your nose looks like. At this time, the nose shape is more realistic; when the swelling covers the original shape, the nose may appear very ugly or even scary. But you don't need to be afraid, this is a normal reaction to the surgery. Almost everyone has to go through this process. This is not inflammation, but a normal tissue response.

Post-rhinoplasty care:

Try not to wash your face with running water within a few days after the operation. You can wipe the non-surgical area of your face with a wet towel. Because if the wound comes into contact with water and is not treated properly, it will become infected. Disinfect the wound 2-3 times a day with disinfectant to keep the wound sterile. If there is secretion or blood scab on the wound, wipe it clean with sterile saline or medical alcohol.

Secondly, you must apply ice diligently in the first 3 days. Fold the ice compress 90 degrees and place it on both sides of the nose. After the 4th day, you can use hot compress instead.

Again, within 5 days after surgery, elevate your head and back while sleeping. This ensures that the rhinoplasty prosthesis is in the best position and eliminates the possibility of prosthesis displacement and perforation.

Supplement: The following two situations should be noted. One is the breathing difficulties caused by postoperative nasal swelling and nasal obstruction, and the other is local cyanosis. Please seek medical attention immediately if you find any.

Blowing your nose can easily cause bleeding and displacement of the prosthesis. The accumulation of nasal crusts in the nostrils can not only easily cause infection, but also aggravate ventilation blockage. You can soften them with a wet cotton swab and then remove them carefully.
