Tips for repairing the cuticle

Tips for repairing the cuticle

The stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the skin epidermis, is composed of 10-20 layers of flat dead cells without nuclei. After these cells fall off, those located in the basal layer are pushed up to form a new stratum corneum. The stratum corneum is relatively fragile and can be easily damaged if not properly protected. Most people's stratum corneum is damaged due to acquired factors, that is, improper skin care. For example, excessive exfoliation can damage the stratum corneum. Once the stratum corneum is damaged, it needs to be repaired in time.

1. What is considered acquired stratum corneum damage?

People with a congenitally thin stratum corneum have always been very sensitive since childhood, with strong skin permeability and poor water-locking ability, making it easy to dry out and peel. For most of us, damage to our stratum corneum is caused by acquired factors. It is often due to frequent exfoliation, the use of irritating skin care products, fruit acid peels and other cosmetic procedures. These excessive skin care procedures cause skin damage, and the stratum corneum, as the outermost layer of the skin barrier, naturally becomes the object of damage.

2. What to do if the stratum corneum is damaged after birth

1. Avoid Over-Cleaning

If you want to restore the damaged stratum corneum, you must first avoid secondary damage. Excessive cleansing is one of the ways to cause damage, which will cause a large amount of sebum that protects the stratum corneum to be lost. After the stratum corneum is damaged, you should avoid using alkaline or soap-based cleaning products, reduce or avoid exfoliation, and instead use mild, low-irritation, and additive-free cleansers with warm water for cleansing.

2. Deep nourishment, moisturizing and repairing

Once the stratum corneum is damaged, the skin's ability to lock in moisture will be greatly reduced, moisture will be easily lost, and the ingredients that would originally nourish the skin will also decrease. Therefore, it is necessary to use some moisturizing and repair products suitable for sensitive skin to soothe, moisturize and repair. This can not only help repair the damaged stratum corneum, but also enhance moisturizing and locking in moisture.

3. Enhance protection when going out

After the stratum corneum is damaged and thinned, the skin's resistance is greatly weakened, and the tolerance to external stimuli is significantly reduced. If exposed to ultraviolet rays, pigmentation problems are more likely to occur. Friends with damaged stratum corneum should use mild, non-irritating sunscreen with a certain SPF when going out to help the skin protect against ultraviolet rays.

4. Rehydrate and soothe at any time

Acquired damage to the stratum corneum causes skin sensitivity, and the skin often experiences redness and burning when exposed to heat or external stimuli. For this, you can always have a bottle of soothing and moisturizing spray on hand. When the skin shows uncomfortable reactions such as redness, heat, dryness, etc., you can use a soothing moisturizing spray to quickly calm and soothe the skin.

5. Pay attention to diet

Irritating foods, tobacco, alcohol, etc. are bad for the skin. They will stimulate blood vessel dilation and aggravate redness and hotness. Once the stratum corneum is damaged, the skin's barrier function is affected, making it more difficult to control skin problems. Therefore, quitting irritating foods, alcoholic beverages, coffee, etc. is also very important for repairing the stratum corneum.
