Small bulge on the inside of the nostril after rhinoplasty

Small bulge on the inside of the nostril after rhinoplasty

It is a woman's nature to love beauty. The pursuit of beauty is what everyone wants. Many women undergo cosmetic surgery in order to have a flawless face. Rhinoplasty is one of the cosmetic surgeries. Many patients undergo rhinoplasty in order to have a high nose bridge. However, rhinoplasty is not very successful and a small bag will bulge inside the nostril. So, what should we do at this time?

Some patients have a bulge at the incision after undergoing nasal surgery. The bulge appears when they are standing, and becomes much smaller or even disappears after lying down. People often call it knife-edge hernia, and it is medically called incisional hernia. The fundamental reason why there is a bulge at the incision is that the incision has not healed well. Although the skin outside the incision seems to have healed well, the muscles and other tissues under the skin (that is, the nose wall) have not grown completely. There were cracks in the muscle inside the incision, and even a "hole" appeared. When the nasal pressure increases, such as when you exert force or cough, the intestines and other internal organs will be squeezed out from there, and a bulge will be seen on the surface of the body.

Most patients will not feel pain, but a few will experience some swelling and pain. If you engage in strenuous activity, the pressure in your nasal cavity will increase and the pain will be more obvious. However, if not treated in time, the "hole" on the nasal wall will become bigger and bigger, more and more internal organs will come out from here, and the bag will become bigger and bigger. These organs go in and out of the "holes" in the nasal wall, constantly in contact and friction, and can easily cause adhesions to the nasal wall, or adhesions between the organs. If what comes out is the intestine, intestinal adhesion is likely to occur, leading to intestinal obstruction, or even the intestine is stuck in the "hole" and cannot go back (medically called incarceration). At this time, the patient will feel very painful. Generally speaking, if the patient experiences pain and the pain becomes more and more obvious, it means that the disease is becoming more serious.

If an incisional hernia occurs after surgery, does it need to be treated? Can the "hole" on the nasal wall heal on its own?

Once an incisional hernia occurs, is it necessary to undergo another surgery? Many patients do not want to undergo another surgery and hope that the incisional hernia can heal on its own, which is impossible. No matter what type of hernia it is, it should be treated as soon as possible once it is discovered, especially incisional hernia, because the "hole" in the nasal wall cannot grow on its own. On the contrary, if left untreated, the nasal pressure will increase during activities, and the internal organs will constantly impact the "hole" in the nasal wall, and the "bag" will only become more and more obvious. The longer you delay, the more complicated the operation will be and the worse the patient's recovery will be. Therefore, if an incisional hernia is discovered, it should be treated as soon as possible.

Some people use a nose band to tighten their stomach, how effective is it? Can wearing a nose band completely cure an incisional hernia?

Some patients developed incisional hernia after surgery, so they wore a nasal band to pull the bulge back. They found the effect very good, so they kept wearing it without going to the hospital for treatment. For patients with incisional hernia, there are several situations in which they can temporarily wear a nasal strip for treatment, such as when they are in poor health recently and have just developed heart or respiratory problems, which make surgery impossible, or they have been ill for a long time and have no symptoms, and happen to have something going on at home recently, in which case they can wear a nasal strip for a while. Using a nasal band to tighten the abdomen can prevent the development of incisional hernia, and can also prevent a sudden increase in nasal pressure from causing the incisional hernia to get stuck and cause danger. But it can only slow down the progression of the disease and cannot completely cure incisional hernia. As long as the nose band is opened, the bag will bulge out again because the "hole" in the nose wall is still there and will never heal itself.

Here we need to remind all patients how to wear nose strips correctly. Many patients put on a nose band when they stand up because of the bulging belly. At this time, it is very likely that the bulging internal organs will be pulled out of the "hole", and wearing a nose band will have the opposite effect. The nose band should be put on when you are lying down, when the bag is relatively small or all is retracted, and then you can stand up and move around, so that it can play a protective role.
