How long should I avoid eating after double eyelid surgery?

Double eyelid surgery is a common cosmetic method nowadays. Many people who don't like single eyelids have double eyelids. Double eyelid surgery also has certain risks, so you must consider it carefully and go to a regular large-scale plastic surgery hospital for double eyelid surgery. You must pay attention to some matters after double eyelid surgery, such as diet. There are some foods that you cannot eat, such as peppers, seafood, greasy foods, etc. How long do you have to avoid eating these foods for double eyelids? Let’s take a look at it next.

1. How long should I abstain from certain foods if I have double eyelids?

It takes about thirty days to fully recover after double eyelid surgery. During this period, it is best to avoid eating spicy or cold foods, and try not to eat seafood.

2. Introduction to Double Eyelid Surgery

Double eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is one of the most common surgeries in plastic surgery. Generally speaking, double eyelids visually increase the outline of the eyes, add a three-dimensional sense to the eyes, make the eyes appear larger, and make the eyelashes curl upward, giving people a vivid and expressive feeling. People with single eyelids have thicker eyelids and droopy eyelashes, which make the eyes look smaller, dull and lifeless. In addition, single eyelids are more common among Oriental people, accounting for more than 50%, so many people seek surgery for them. There are several types of surgical methods: buried suture eyelid surgery, incision eyelid surgery, suture eyelid surgery/scarless eyelash lift double eyelid surgery and skin grafting eyelid surgery. Currently, the buried suture method and incision method are the most commonly used.

3. Anesthesia method and preoperative preparation

1. Anesthesia method

Conventional local infiltration anesthesia should be avoided, but excessive and deep infiltration should be avoided.

2. Preoperative Preparation

(1) Preoperative health examination: Patients with eye diseases, hypertension, heart disease, scar tissue, and diabetes are not recommended to undergo surgery. In addition, the face should be thoroughly cleaned.

(2) Preoperative surgical planning: Use methylene blue or gentian violet to mark the incision line. Very young patients with tight upper eyelid skin generally do not require skin excision, but most patients will require a strip of skin excision, especially older patients with loose skin. Measurement method: Ask the patient to take a seat, lift the eyelids with ophthalmic tweezers or U-shaped wire at the middle and inner 1/3 and the middle and outer 1/3 of the proposed double eyelid line of the upper eyelid, and see the skin above the fold hanging in front of the tweezers or wire. Make a mark on the hanging skin at the level of the fold, usually 2mm below the marked line and parallel to the first incision line, draw the second line, and then clamp the skin between the two marked lines, so that the eyelashes are slightly curled up. Repeat this test to accurately determine the amount of upper eyelid skin that needs to be removed between the two lines.

IV. Indications

1. Patients with single eyelid, incomplete double eyelid or loose upper eyelid skin who actively request surgery.

2. Adolescent females with thin eyelids and no puffy eyes can choose the buried suture method; other age groups can use the incision method and remove part of the skin and orbital fat as appropriate.

3. The epicanthus can be repaired at the same time. Myopia patients with mild exophthalmos should choose buried suture technique and carefully perform double eyelid incision.

4. For those whose special occupations have special requirements for double eyelids, the patient should discuss with the doctor repeatedly and perform the operation with caution.
