Disadvantages of autologous rib cartilage rhinoplasty

Disadvantages of autologous rib cartilage rhinoplasty

In the past, people would use silicone to perform rhinoplasty, but some silicones are not very safe, and if left in the body for a long time, it may infect some organs and tissues, causing the operation to fail. Therefore, people would use autologous rib cartilage to perform rhinoplasty, but there are also some disadvantages and advantages that everyone needs to understand clearly.

Advantages of surgery

1. Good tissue compatibility and stability. It heals with the local tissue of the nose and is easy to fix. Autologous cartilage rhinoplasty will not shift.

2. Autologous rhinoplasty will not cause rejection reaction;

3. Low absorption. The absorption rate of autologous rhinoplasty is low, and it can survive without blood supply;

4. Autologous rhinoplasty is simple to operate and is easy to obtain from the body. Autologous rhinoplasty can generally be obtained from ear cartilage, nasal septum cartilage and rib cartilage;

5. It is very easy to carve and trim the model. Autologous rhinoplasty materials are ideal rhinoplasty materials, and they prevent nose deformation and perforation;

6. The touch is real. After autologous rhinoplasty, you don’t have to worry about normal contact with the nose. You can push and press the nose tip, and it feels soft and realistic.

Disadvantages of surgery

Autologous cartilage rhinoplasty also has disadvantages, which can be summarized as follows:

1. If the autologous rhinoplasty material is taken from the rib cartilage, there will be a scar left on the chest. If the wound is slightly larger, part of the rib cartilage will be easily bent and deformed after transplantation.

2. The material for autologous cartilage rhinoplasty is ear cartilage. The amount of ear cartilage is small and it is only used to raise the tip of the nose. It is not suitable for the columella. Since the concha cartilage has an arc, the columella will bend after the operation. There will be some absorption, and the absorption rate varies from person to person, generally below 15%;

3. If the autologous cartilage rhinoplasty material is taken from the nasal septum cartilage, since the amount of nasal septum cartilage that can be cut is limited, it can generally only be used for cosmetic surgery of the nose tip and columella. There will be some absorption, and the absorption rate varies from person to person, generally below 15%.
